What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliation and skin revitalizing treatment.* The microdermabrasion machine gently removes the top layer of skin, which is mostly dead skin cells and debris.* The machine’s wand simultaneously vacuums away the dead skin in a precise and controlled manner.* As a result, the skin is left smoother and cleaner than ever.* This is an excellent procedure to pre-treat your skin before a chemical peel or laser/IPL treatment. It is also a non-aggressive way of treating acne scars and uneven skin texture.*
How microdermabrasion works
At Refine Medical, our primary use for microdermabrasion is as a pre-treatment for many of our other therapies, thereby augmenting their benefits. Alone, microdermabrasion can work to gently and progressively reduce fine lines and pigment issues, and help to reduce the frequency of acneic flares.* For best results, microdermabrasion should be administered through a series of treatments and ongoing maintenance.* Refine offers rewards for your dedication to healthy skin!
What to expect during your appointment
We start by cleaning the face with a cleansing process. As the wand passes over the skin, you will feel a very mild suctioning as dead skin gets vacuumed away.* Several passes may be done with more attention given to trouble areas. Because your skin is now primed to accept treatments at a much deeper level, the next step is crucial. You can either have an IPL procedure with more effective results or a chemical peel with higher than average absorption.* Microdermabrasion usually takes less than 30 minutes.
What to expect from the results
Your skin will feel smooth and supple for a few weeks after your session.* Patients receiving treatments for acne scars or texture issues will notice a difference immediately, especially when applying products or makeup.* The skin will continue to improve with additional treatments.* Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, most patients will receive a treatment every 4-6 weeks.* If you are trying to correct a problem, more aggressive treatments every 2-3 weeks may be necessary.* Conversely, if you are using excellent products and getting other anti-aging procedures, you may only need microdermabrasion every 2-3 months.*
